When the fluid tries to flow back in the opposite direction, the disk is pushed down onto the seat, creating a tight seal and preventing the fluid from flowing backward.


There are different types of check valves depending on their application. Swing check valves use a disk that swings open when the fluid flows in the right direction and closes when the fluid tries to flow back in the opposite direction. Tilting disk check valves use a disk that tilts to allow flow in one direction and creates a seal when flow tries to reverse. Ball check valves use a ball-shaped disk that rolls out of the way when there is flow in the right direction and seals the opening when flow tries to reverse.


One of the main benefits of check valves is their simplicity and ability to work without human intervention. They require no external power source and are self-actuating, which makes them reliable and low maintenance. Additionally, check valves have a low-pressure drop, which means that minimal energy is required to open the valve, making them ideal for low-pressure applications.

Check valves can be manual, which means that they must be installed in the right direction to function correctly, or automatic, which means that they can operate in any position. Automatic check valves are convenient and require less human intervention, making them ideal for remote applications.
